Tammy Pescatelli (@TammyPescatelli)  is a great comic and loves a thrift store. Then I run out of questions, because the air in Aspen CO is shy of needed oxygen… so we switch to her love of Vampires. Yes. Vampires. Check it out.

This month our sponsor is MY SISTER!!! Financial Advisor, helper Magoo Darla Kashian! She reads HER OWN AD. She pronounces our last name different and she’s at www.darlakashian.com Heh. Enjoy that.

We all know I have an hour comedy video out at www.allthingscomedy.com/jackiekashian right? Cuz I do. $5 download. It’s called “This Will Make An Excellent Horcrux” because comedy is all about soul ;) … Own it today and forever. OR get a hard copy (or the CD) on the Merch page on my website. www.jackiekashian.com

It’s January. DONATE to the dork forest. If you love the show and have $10/month to donate, and the memory to do it each month, do eet!! If you want to support the show in other ways, talk us up! Get a shirt or CD/DVD at www.jackiekashian.com or www.dorkforest.com

    vampires are my problematic fave
    Great episode, thank you!

I am especially exited about the vampire segment.

Like many queer kids I have a thing for vicious creatures from an early age (they tend to be queer coded and we pick up those vibes, I guess?) - vampires in particular. They are the ones who happen to be coded as bisexual a lot. [But not always: "Carmilla", for example, a novel that predates Bram Stoker's "Dracula", is about a lady vampire who exclusively preys on ladies (Sheridan Le Fanu, 1872).] Even in "Buffy", writers went out of their way to imply some sexy times between Spike & Angel or make evil vampire Willow bi. Because bisexuals are greedy, dangerous hypersexuals who should not be trusted - not just regular boring people from all shades of life, you see. And because sex in "Buffy" is a bad thing to have and queer sex even gets you killed (Tara) - unless you are kinda dead + evil already.

Anne Rice is also well known for pushing the bi vampires trope, which is probably why I loved her chronicles when I was a teen. I still have a soft spot for her, even though she is not really that great of a writer and everyone is very white and very rich and women die horrible, horrible deaths.

For weird dorky bi vampire things I recommend watching "The Hunger" (1983). It is not a great movie (and differs from the novel), but the first 20 minutes alone are worth it all! Visually very pleasing. Plus, David Bowie is in it. And Catherine Deneuve & Susan Sarandon get to flirt and make out with each other.

Also being a (mostly Slavic) folklore dork... In Kazakhstan there are mythological tales of vampires that differ from common western narratives. They are described as lonesome and beautiful women-bird hybrid creatures with sharp copper claws who live in deep dark forests or mountains. They seduce and prey/feed on men: The moment a man falls in love with a yalmauz kempir (lit.: a vampire who licks her mouth), she devours him.
