Patrick Perkins and I are at Red Castle Games in Portland Oregon and I re-learn some Magic the Gathering! Warning: You’re listening to us chat about this and other things while we play. And… I just realized that he let me win the first game! heh! It's a dork expedition to a game store with all the audio hijinks that that involves. I hope you enjoy.

Patrick made me a green forest deck (dork forest, get it?) which has green mana
(mana is the “money” or “energy” that allows you to play any other card). He is playing a Red deck (so he would need red mana to play his spells).

Japanese Pork Kenti? I will NOT be googling it. You do it.

Moulder Card (green/instant) (destroy target artifact by spending as much mana as it cost for him to “cast that spell” and then you GAIN that much in player life)

Mark Rosewater – card designer

Richard Garfield

Emperor Deck – now called Commander Deck

Books
When Gravity Fails – George Alec Effinger

The Ear The Eye and The Arm – Nancy Farmer

Actually, you did rec some comics beforehand, in your 8 days ago message here...more always welcome, however. Last week I reviewed the new anthology of MAD comics' imitators, John Hanson's THE SINCEREST FORM OF PARODY, at the blog... http://socialistjazz.blogspot.com/2012/05/ffb-sincerest-form-of-parody-ed-john.html

welcome spill folks... search the site for other eps on magic, boardgames, or... hell, whatever you love, I'm sure somebody has waxed poetical about it!

sorry Todd didn't see your need for comic book recomendations before FCBD (you doing Locke and Key? Unwritten, Cinderella is a fun Fables spin off trade that's superhero-y)

chip in = putting a flash card into your head... into a flash card drive in yer head. "chip in"

comics... dark is Terry Moore's new title, "Rachel Rising" Kyle Baker's "Special Forces" is a trade that is crazy but is a one off (done in one book). Casanova is pretty great. there's finished arcs in trade books... any Ed Brubaker Noir titles... Incognito, Coward...

Booster Gold is selfish. He is a superhero that does advertisements. At least he did before the DC new 52. Explain "Chip in"

And Effinger wrote a lot more in his too-short life...including for the fiction magazine (as opposed to comics) Marvel published all of two issues of, THE HAUNT OF HORROR, and which Gerry Conway edited, before leaving Marvel for tv and UNDER SUSPICION and LAW & ORDER: TWITCHY SHERLOCK HOLMES (and Marvel eventually used the same title for an oversized comic book, one of those which followed Warren but preceded HEAVY METAL...)
