THE old Southwestern University (SWU) "day" high school occupied the second floor of a three-story structure ugg boots near the Aznar Coliseum. The building鈥檚 design was simple: it was rectangular and long, with a lobby at the center and classrooms lining both sides of it. The first floor housed the elementary school and on the third floor was the teacher鈥檚 college.
Candid Thoughts
The same building was occupied by the "night" high school. Another SWU high school, "agriculture," was located in Barangay Basak, a kilometer or two from Barangays Sambag 1 and Sambag 2 where the main campus was and still is located.
It was in the day high school where the now provincial prosecutor, Jane Petralba, now Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Lolita Lumapat-Lumanta, and many others showed their potentials. It was also there where a beautiful mestiza, Venesa (not Vanessa as others would insist) Laxamana studied for a while, until she joined showbiz and became Alma Moreno.
I drifted there in the 鈥?0s after dropping from Cebu City National Science High School where I became a truant. I was desperately in need, therefore, of a moral boost. I could say I found that and more, recovering in that campus my love for study and a willingness to strive for excellence once more. Most of all, I found great camaraderie there.
The old high school building, though, has been demolished after a bigger structure was constructed around the old football field and Citizens Army Training (CAT) grounds nearby and the SWU high school, now considerably smaller, was transferred there. When I visited the place months before, a structure built for the maritime school occupied a portion of the lot where the old high school building was located.
Some of my batch mates would have wanted to hold our first ever Christmas party as a reunited group last Dec. 27 in the lobby of the new building. That would have made our recollections sac hermes of past activities and joys doubly meaningful. But security reasons were used as reason by campus officials not to allow us into our old haunts.
Not to worry. We soon found out that no matter what the place, the memories that are embedded in our minds remain, to borrow a phrase from Ernest Hemingway, a "moveable feast." When old friends with shared experiences gather, the subjective becomes more forceful than the objective.
Not much can be subtracted from the enjoyment of recalling those youthful moments and frolic.
That wasn鈥檛 our first gathering; we have been at doudoune moncler it for many times already. Credit that to new technology, specifically the wonders of Facebook, which only several months ago allowed us to reconnect to batch mates not only in the Philippines but also abroad. Yet no matter how many times we gather, the good feeling remains.
As Stephen Aznar, who now looks more like his late father Matias III or Bombi, would put it, we go to reunions because we want to relive the happy times we shared together when we were younger. Conversely, if we didn鈥檛 Louis vuitton pas cher experience those happy times, why go to reunions at all?
After more than three decades, age has begun to catch up on us. The wrinkles are starting to grow in number and a few of doudoune moncler us are already being referred to as lolos or lolas. But no matter what our physical appearance is now, we become like teenagers when we meet, laugh again at those innocent acts and jokes and generally feel good.
That鈥檚 why last Dec. 27 was, again, memorable.
