My guests are Scott Krinsky (who plays Jeff Barnes on Chuck) and my friend Mary Mack, standup comic and fan of mini-donkeys from Wisconsin. This is a morning edition of The Dork Forest; we’re all punchy because we’re comics, we weed off a LOT. Good times.

Notes:

Posse Comitatus – I wasn’t certain this was real. My PARENTS told me about them.

Gluten Free Date Roll - found a recipe, your call.
Geodesic Dome – who knows if we get back to this.
Donkey Trash Italy

Mini Donkey Ranching – I can’t find information about herding donkeys

Whac-a-mole

Whac-a-mole for iPhone

Jules Verne – inventions that came true!
Lamplighter Webb Lake – sadly closed!

Last Comic Standing Season 6

Fascinating tale of chapstick, vaseline and carmex

Oil Rush in PA
Ambergris

Encyclopedia Brown

The Life of Riley – Mary Mack recommended DVD.

Omnivore’s Dilemma – Scott Krinsky recommended book.

4H ClubHead, Heart, Hands, Health

Thanks for listening. Take care of each other out there, Jackie

My website www.jackiekashian.com has everything. A  player, standup schedule and videos, the merch (CD/T-shirt opportunities), the donation button.

The iPhone App, Android App, and a very basic FREE app for the iPhone/Android/Palm/Blackberry are available. The apps you buy have “extra content.”

Your suggestion of the older Jen Kirkman/Hard 'n' Phirm show reminded me somehow of this one, or at least somehow I just needed to hear Mary Mack's voice (and exasperation over the virtual Whack A Mole) again...and Pie is my favorite vitamin, if no one has noted, is a POGO line...

And you don't have to wait for the Big Crash for Americans to be using donkeys and horses in the streets of the cities...I imagine Krinsky might've made his way over to Baltimore from time to time, and seen the "arabers," as I have, with drawn carts, collecting scrap metal or selling various items to passers-by. Of course, Bal'mer, as so ably portrayed by various Barry Levinson and/or David Simon productions, has had more than its share of big crash over the last forty years or so. Spooky how much of the city was just leveled lots in the 1980s, not even squattable...the rodents were lucky to be able to find shelter in what ruins were left. It was almost like Carthage.

And, as always, a funny and engaging episode. Your character on CHUCK could refer to assassination hilarity...you could have a Belzeresque character for exposition bombs...

Wow, a cornucopia of TDF. And I'm gathering that among your innermost circle, Jackie, you might be one of the few altos (v. sopranos or even sopraninos).

Last things first...raw milk is a hotly (not hot enough to Pasteurize) debated matter, with way too much overconfidence among its advocates (as often in these cases, too much reflexive distrust of untrustworthy big-business interests)...some kids have died from the un-Pasteurized state of the milk in question.

Submarines predate Jules Verne, much less his fiction, albeit not subs that could travel 20K leagues underwater (from place to place, rather than down...I'm not sure the water's that deep). The primitive sub The Turtle was employed by the rebels in the US Revolutionary War:

Surfing is pretty bad on most of the Atlantic shore, though body-surfing as I used to do, and boogie-boarding as Krinsky did, were still fun at the decent beachs (more fun in Kailua after we moved to Hawaii). Narragansett Beach in Long Island is probably the most famous East Coast surfing spot.

Even as a little one, I preferred Donald Sobol's TWO-MINUTE MYSTERIES books to the ENCYCLOPEDIA BROWN...more puzzles per volume. And, speaking of mysteries, the woman who co-adapted THE BIG SLEEP (with William Faulkner, who was mostly busy drinking instead of working at the time, and a few others) from Raymond Chandler's novel, Leigh Brackett, also (solo) adapted THE LONG GOODBYE decades later, and as her last work in H'wood, wrote the first version of the script for THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK...also wrote Much better space opera fiction than nearly anyone else, so you could do worse than her fiction (some of which was crime fiction, such as NO GOOD FOR A CORPSE, and some was sf but not space opera, such as THE LONG TOMORROW).

The guys over at JESSE JORDAN GO! have been casually mentioning/rhapsodizing over "donks" (as in the miniature animals) for some time now...horses of all sorts will overeat when it comes to apples and such, at least...

I remember arcades before videogames became the dominant form (whack a things and foosball and skiball and such, but mostly pinball), but only barely remember supermarkets with non-automatic doors (living as I have a bicoastal life mostly in relatively affluent circumstances, kinda sorta...
