I’m in Ann Arbor with Fritz Milhaupt, friend of the show. He asked if I’d like to meet his friends who (with him) play trains. They are part of the Operations Road Show project, an offshoot of Rails on Wheels. They’ve been modeling the Wabash Railroad between Layfayette, Indiana and Peru, Indiana between Labor Day and Sept 25th, 1964. Yeah. They are train dorks AMONG train dorks. Yeah.
NOTES:
Our cast and crew:
Jeff Fryman (homeowner)
John Young (who did most of the talking, and who did most of the carpentry)
Fritz Milhaupt (control systems dork)
Bob Milhaupt (not present, wiring and electronics, built the animated signals)
Al Robertson (not present, made the long stretch of autumn scenery)
Lafayette Station/Monon Station 1961
Lots of Crackling of Papers… much like in real train playing!!
Jeff Fryman (who hosts the railroad, when it's not on the road) was a railroad brakeman in the 60’s
Craig Wilson is a guy that made model auto frames to be CARGO
Jack Burgess’ One Day in Yosemite
I’m agreeing like I know what he’s talking about. I’m learning as he talks.
